In a first, FPIs raise overnight positions in Sensex options

Foreign portfolio investors created overnight open interest positions in BSE Sensex options for the first time since the contracts were relaunched in May 2023, with FPI OI reaching ₹20,056 crore (9.09 percent of total) by March 2026 from zero in FY25, and jumping further to 13.5 percent in April. Sensex monthly options premium turnover surged 13 times between January 2025 and May 2026, while the count of FPIs registered with BSE rose fivefold to 520 in FY26 from 100 in the previous fiscal. Sensex options market share in overall index options climbed to 27.8 percent by April end from 20 percent a year earlier.
