New retail space supply in malls across India's top seven cities fell 57 percent year-on-year to 2.8 million sq ft in H1 2026, according to Anarock. Gross leasing of retail spaces stood at about 4.1 million sq ft, a 24 percent decline from the prior year, while vacancy dropped to 6.7 percent. The consultancy cited land availability constraints, rising land costs, higher capex requirements, and delayed government approvals as key reasons for the supply crunch.
