IEX reported monthly electricity traded volume of 12,341 MU in April 2026, up 16.6% year-on-year, driven by record peak demand of 256 GW due to dynamic weather conditions including summer heat. Real-Time Market volume surged 30.2% YoY to 5,069 MU, including a highest-ever single-day trade of 250 MU on April 30. However, Renewable Energy Certificate volumes declined sharply by 59.4% YoY to 1.18 lakh RECs, with sell bids down 87% YoY despite buy bids rising 42% YoY. Average market clearing prices increased modestly—DAM at Rs 5.26/unit (up 1%) and RTM at Rs 4.82/unit (up 5.4%). Green market volumes grew 7.5% YoY to 841 MU.
Strong volume growth in core electricity trading markets is positive for IEX's market share and revenue. However, the sharp 59.4% decline in REC volumes is a concern, indicating subdued renewable certificate trading activity that could impact exchange fee income from this segment.
