IEX reported overall electricity traded volume of 101.68 BU in 9MFY26, up 14.3% year-on-year, with Q3FY26 volume at 34.08 BU (+11.9% YoY) and December 2025 at 11.44 BU (+2.8% YoY). The Real-Time Market (RTM) was the standout segment, growing 35.7% YoY in Q3 and 20.5% YoY in December, while the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) actually saw volumes fall 2.8% in Q3 and 11.6% in December. Average prices declined sharply — DAM at Rs 3.22/unit in Q3 (down 13.2% YoY) and RTM at Rs 3.26/unit (down 11.6% YoY) — due to higher supply liquidity from hydro, wind, and coal-based generation, though December prices ticked up modestly. Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) trading fell 29.8% YoY in Q3 and 53.7% YoY in December, a notable weak spot.
Mixed signals for shareholders: strong RTM growth and overall volume expansion are positives, but sharply lower clearing prices and weak DAM and REC volumes could pressure revenue per unit traded. Investors will watch whether lower prices offset the volume growth in upcoming earnings.
