IEX reported Q1 FY'26 trading volume of 32.4 billion units (+15% YoY), revenue of INR 184.2 crores (+19.2% YoY), and profit after tax of INR 120.7 crores (+25.2% YoY). Growth was broad-based: RTM volumes rose 41% YoY to ~13 billion units, green market volumes jumped 51% to 2.7 billion units, and Renewable Energy Certificates traded grew nearly 150% to 53 lakh. However, average prices fell sharply — Day Ahead Market price dropped 16% YoY to INR 4.41/unit and Real-Time Market price fell 20% to INR 3.91/unit, with RTM briefly hitting INR 1.53/unit in May on heavy rains. The call was dominated by the CERC's July 23, 2025 market coupling order mandating implementation in the DAM segment by January 2026, which could impact IEX's 95%+ market share. Management said it is evaluating legal options (review/appeal) but was largely non-committal on competitive response strategies and refused to share specifics on revenue share with NSE/MCX for power derivatives.
Positive quarterly numbers with strong PAT growth are offset by the structural overhang of market coupling and notable decline in average traded prices, which may pressure transaction fee economics. Management's evasiveness on competitive response and market share retention strategy could weigh on investor sentiment despite the solid topline print.
