Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported total electricity traded volume of 10,584 MU in April 2025, up 26% year-on-year. The Real-Time Market (RTM) grew 48% YoY to 3,893 MU, the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) rose 3% to 4,231 MU, and the Green Market surged 95% YoY to 782 MU. The average DAM price remained competitive at Rs. 5.20/unit despite a rise in peak power demand, which touched 235 GW on April 25, 2025 versus 224 GW in April 2024. The government has mandated the operation of imported coal-based and gas-based plants to improve supply, and peak demand is expected to exceed 270 GW in FY26. Additionally, 2.90 lakh Renewable Energy Certificates were traded at clearing prices of Rs. 300 and Rs. 350 per REC.
Strong double-digit volume growth across segments, especially the 95% jump in Green Market, signals robust business momentum and benefits from rising power demand. Competitive pricing despite demand growth indicates ample supply, which may limit near-term price gains but supports volume-driven revenue growth for IEX shareholders.
