Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) reported its June 2025 and Q1 FY'26 trading update. Monthly electricity traded volume reached 10,852 MU, up 6.5% year-on-year, while Q1 FY'26 total volume stood at 32,382 MU, up 15% YoY. The Real-Time Market (RTM) and Green Market showed strong growth — RTM rose 34% in June and 41% in Q1, while the Green Market grew 30% in June and 51% in Q1. Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) trading surged 636% YoY in June (32.32 lakh RECs) and 149% YoY in Q1 (52.65 lakh RECs). However, the Day-Ahead Market (DAM) volume fell 5% in June and 7% in Q1, and average DAM prices dropped 28% YoY to Rs 3.90/unit in June, hurt by early monsoons, strong hydro and wind generation, and lower-than-expected summer demand.
Mixed for shareholders: strong volume growth in RTM, Green Market, and REC segments is positive for transaction-based revenue, but a sharp fall in DAM prices (down 16-28% YoY) and a decline in DAM volumes could weigh on overall earnings. Falling prices reflect favourable supply conditions for buyers but signal potential margin pressure for the exchange.
