Indian Energy Exchange reported total electricity traded volume of 11,233 million units (MU) in October 2025, up 16.5% year-on-year. Real-Time Market (RTM) volumes surged 46.8% YoY to 4,583 MU, while Day-Ahead Market (DAM) volumes rose 6.7% to 4,684 MU. However, Term-Ahead Market (TAM) volumes declined 27.7% YoY to 911 MU. Average prices fell sharply, with DAM at Rs 2.67/unit (down 32% YoY) and RTM at Rs 2.73/unit (down 27.8% YoY), driven by higher supply from hydro, wind, solar, and coal-based generation. Green Market volumes grew 21% YoY to 1,055 MU, and Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) trading jumped 39.4% YoY with 6.19 lakh RECs cleared at Rs 370 each.
Strong volume growth, especially in the high-frequency RTM segment, signals healthy demand for exchange-based power procurement. However, sharply lower prices may pressure revenue per unit, creating a mixed picture for near-term earnings even as market share expands.
