IRFC has signed a loan agreement with a consortium of Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (GIFT City Branch) and MUFG Bank Ltd (GIFT City Branch) to raise an External Commercial Borrowing (ECB) of JPY equivalent USD 400 million. The facility is for a 5-year tenor and is benchmarked to the Overnight TONAR (Tokyo Overnight Average Rate). The loan is unsecured, and proceeds will be used to finance railway sector projects. This is IRFC's second ECB in FY 2025-26, following a JPY equivalent USD 300 million raise in December 2025.
This signals continued access to international capital markets at competitive rates and diversifies IRFC's funding base. The ability to raise a second ECB within the same fiscal year reflects strong investor confidence and should help lower the company's weighted average borrowing cost, positively supporting its financing capacity for railway infrastructure.
