IREDA shared its Q1 FY26 investor presentation highlighting strong business growth but a sharp deterioration in asset quality. Loan book expanded 27% YoY to Rs 79,941 crore, with sanctions up 29% and disbursements up 31% YoY. Total income rose 30% YoY to Rs 1,960 crore, supported by improved net interest margins (3.60% vs 3.29% YoY) and lower cost of borrowings (7.40% vs 7.78%). However, profit after tax fell 36% YoY to Rs 247 crore due to higher impairment provisions of Rs 363 crore. Gross NPA spiked sharply to 4.13% (Rs 3,302 crore) from 2.45% in FY25, with net NPA also rising to 2.06%. The company recently raised Rs 2,005.90 crore through a QIP, diluting GOI holding from 75% to 71.76%, and was granted Navratna status in 2025.
Strong loan growth and improving margins are positive for shareholders, but the steep rise in NPAs and 36% drop in quarterly profit are red flags that may weigh on the stock. The recent QIP capital raise strengthens the balance sheet to support further growth, while the new 54EC bond approval helps lower borrowing costs going forward.
