Institutional demand sparks surge in block deals as promoters book profits

Block and bulk deal activity rebounded sharply in May to Rs 15,900 crore and stayed robust in June at Rs 9,000 crore after a muted March, driven by strong institutional demand and IPO lock-in expiries. Notable transactions included Vedanta promoter Twin Star Holdings selling Rs 1,896 crore worth of shares, DOMS Industries stake sale by Fila at Rs 934.7 crore, Fidelity's Meesho exit worth Rs 988.15 crore, PB Fintech promoters offloading Rs 665.38 crore, and Alpha Wave Ventures selling its entire Delhivery stake for Rs 664.7 crore. Domestic mutual funds and global institutions flush with SIP inflows are absorbing supply at scale, with Nifty 500 up close to 12 percent and Nifty Smallcap 250 surging around 23.5 percent from late March lows.
