MRPL, a subsidiary of ONGC, has been granted a US patent (No. 12,312,290 dated 27.05.2025) for its in-house developed process to manufacture Isobutyl Benzene (i-BB) using a newly engineered catalyst. Isobutyl Benzene is a key intermediate in producing ibuprofen (Brufen), a widely used painkiller. The company already holds an Indian patent for the same technology, and the US grant strengthens its global intellectual property footprint in pharmaceutical ingredient synthesis.
