Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) has signed a Shareholder Agreement to pick up a 26% stake in M/s ACER Credit Rating Pvt. Ltd., a newly incorporated financial services company focused on credit rating and related services. IOB will invest Rs. 6.50 Crores by subscribing to 65 lakh equity shares at Rs. 10 each. The target company has an authorized capital of Rs. 30 Crores and is yet to start operations (turnover of Rs. 0). RBI approval for the investment was received on April 9, 2025. The deal is not a related-party transaction and is purely an investment move to enter the credit rating space.
For retail shareholders, this is a small strategic investment (Rs. 6.50 Cr) by IOB in a new credit rating venture, so the direct financial impact on the bank is limited. However, it signals IOB's intent to diversify into the credit rating business, which could offer fee income and synergies with its lending operations over time.
