Ipca Laboratories has signed a Technology Transfer and Joint Development Agreement with US-based BioSimilar Sciences PR LLC (BSS) for a monoclonal antibody biosimilar it is developing to treat cancer and autoimmune diseases. BSS gets exclusive rights to sell in the USA and Canada, and non-exclusive rights in some LATAM countries, with manufacturing to take place at OcyonBio's 200,000 sq ft sterile facility in Aguadilla, Puerto Rico, which has 60 million units of annual fill-finish capacity. Ipca will earn milestone fees for the technology transfer and ongoing royalties on net sales once the product is commercialized. The first biosimilar launch is targeted for 2027, with another molecule aiming for FDA approval in 2028/29. The addressable US market for this biosimilar is over USD 4 billion, growing at roughly 12% per year.
This deal gives Ipca a royalty-driven income stream into the high-growth US biosimilar market without taking on the full cost of American commercialization, which can boost long-term earnings through milestone payments and ongoing royalties. It also signals Ipca's strategic push into biologicals, complementing its existing small-molecule and API businesses.
