JSW Energy has provided an update on its ongoing tariff dispute with Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL). The dispute relates to applicability of government directions under Section 11 of the Electricity Act to JSW Energy's Ratnagiri unit. MSEDCL had challenged a favorable MERC order in APTEL, and when that failed, approached the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court on 30th April 2026 ordered MSEDCL to make an interim payment of Rs 250 crores to JSW Energy and directed APTEL to re-hear MSEDCL's interim application. The case continues before APTEL.
Positive for JSW Energy as the Supreme Court order ensures an immediate inflow of Rs 250 crores from MSEDCL. The resolution of the larger tariff dispute remains pending but the interim order validates JSW Energy's position in the dispute.
