JSW Steel reported consolidated crude steel production of 23.66 Lakh tonnes for February 2026, down about 2% from 24.07 Lakh tonnes in February 2025. Indian operations produced 23.06 Lakh tonnes (-1% YoY), while the USA Ohio unit produced 0.60 Lakh tonnes (-20% YoY). The dip in Indian output is attributed to the ongoing shutdown of Blast Furnace 3 at Vijayanagar since September 2025 for capacity upgradation. Excluding BF3 from last year's base, volumes actually grew around 8% YoY, supported by the full ramp-up of JVML operations. Capacity utilisation for Indian operations was ~97% excluding BF3 and 88% including it. USA Ohio output was hit by caster upgrade ramp-up and a severe winter storm.
The headline decline in production is explained by known one-off factors (BF3 shutdown and US weather), and underlying Indian volumes excluding BF3 grew 8% YoY at near-full capacity utilisation. For shareholders, the data is largely neutral — it shows healthy operational momentum once temporary disruptions are excluded, though near-term monthly numbers may look weak on a reported basis.
