Linc Limited, a leading writing instruments company, reported Q1 FY26 revenue of ₹13,698 Lacs, up 5.3% year-on-year but down 11% sequentially. However, profitability took a hit with operating EBITDA falling 7.8% YoY to ₹1,314 Lacs (margin contracting 136 bps to 9.6%) and net profit declining 16.4% YoY to ₹705 Lacs. Management attributed the weak bottom-line to 'one-off operational factors and transitional costs' and called the deviation temporary. The company sold 1,918 lakh pens in the quarter, with its premium Pentonic brand now contributing 37.4% of revenue (up from 34.3% in FY25). The balance sheet remains strong with net free cash of ₹2,121 Lacs, Net Debt/EBITDA at (0.40), ROCE of 15.6%, and a 24% dividend payout.
Short-term sentiment may be negative given the sharp sequential decline in profits and margin compression, but the management's view of the miss as a one-off and continued strength in premiumisation and balance sheet could limit downside. Investors should watch for recovery signs in Q2 and progress on the delayed Mitsubishi JV.
