Lloyds Engineering Works Ltd (LEWL) has deepened its existing technology partnership with Italy-based FINCANTIERI S.p.A, one of the world's largest shipbuilding groups. The expanded agreement adds two new marine propulsion systems to their collaboration — Controllable Pitch Propeller (CPP) Systems and Shafting Systems — on top of the earlier joint work on steering gear, fin stabilizers, and thrusters. LEWL will manufacture these advanced systems indigenously, becoming one of the first Indian companies to do so, aligning with the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat push. The company stated its defence order book has crossed Rs 100 crore in FY25, with further contract prospects expected to grow. Management called the partnership a transformative step toward becoming a key defence and marine systems supplier.
Positive for shareholders — the deal strengthens LEWL's defence revenue pipeline, adds high-value indigenously manufactured products, reduces import dependence, and positions the company to benefit from India's naval modernisation and self-reliance programmes.
