Lupin has entered a licensing and commercialization partnership with Sandoz Group AG, Switzerland, for its biosimilar Ranibizumab. Under the deal, Sandoz will handle commercialization across the EU (excluding Germany), Switzerland, Norway, Australia, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Malaysia, holding exclusive rights in most of these markets. Lupin will retain manufacturing and regulatory responsibilities. A separate agreement grants Sandoz sole commercialization rights in Canada, while Lupin continues to handle manufacturing and filings there. Ranibizumab is used to treat serious eye conditions including wet age-related macular degeneration, diabetic macular edema, and retinal vein occlusion. The deal gives Lupin a global commercial footprint through one of the world's largest generics and biosimilars companies.
This is a positive development for Lupin shareholders as it monetizes Lupin's biosimilar pipeline through a strong global partner without Lupin needing to build its own commercial infrastructure in these regions, while Lupin retains manufacturing margins and supply responsibilities. The partnership with a major player like Sandoz could provide revenue visibility and validates the quality of Lupin's biosimilar product.
