Lupin announced a partnership with Honeywell to use Honeywell's Solstice® Air (HFO-1234ze) propellant in its pressurized metered-dose inhalers (pMDIs) for asthma and COPD patients. Lupin will be the first Indian pharmaceutical company to use this next-generation propellant at scale, which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 99.9% compared to traditional HFC-based propellants. The technology targets a more environmentally sustainable respiratory care solution. Terms of the deal are still subject to negotiation and execution of definitive documents between the two companies.
This is a positive strategic move for Lupin, positioning it as a sustainability leader in respiratory care and potentially giving it a first-mover advantage in India as the industry shifts to low-global-warming propellants. For shareholders, it strengthens Lupin's respiratory portfolio and ESG profile, though the deal terms are yet to be finalized and the near-term financial impact is limited.
