Mahindra & Mahindra's Japanese associate, Mitsubishi Mahindra Agricultural Machinery Co., Ltd. (MAM), has decided to withdraw from the agricultural machinery business after continued losses despite multiple restructuring attempts. MAM will continue only spare parts supply and warranty services, while the rest of the business will be dissolved and liquidated under Japanese law, with the exit targeted for the first half of fiscal year 2027. For FY25, MAM contributed Rs. 1,786 crore (1.13%) to M&M's consolidated revenue but a negative Rs. 151.6 crore (1.17%) to consolidated profit after tax, with a net worth of just Rs. (11.8) crore after intercompany adjustments. The M&M group will benefit by no longer having to fund these annual losses.
This is mildly positive for M&M shareholders as it removes a small but consistently loss-making drag from the consolidated books. The financial impact is negligible at the group level given MAM's tiny revenue share, but it signals a cleaner, more focused portfolio going forward.
