Manali Petrochemicals received a Final Order from CESTAT dated 23rd March 2026, allowing the company's appeal against a customs duty demand of Rs. 3.83 crore (plus interest) raised by the DRI, Mumbai during July 2019. The demand was raised on imports of Quicklime, which authorities alleged were misclassified under CTI 2825 9090 instead of the declared CTI 2522 1000. The Tribunal upheld the company's classification based on the Calcium Oxide purity ranging between 91%-95%, which falls below the 98% threshold required for the higher classification. The demand has been set aside entirely in favor of the company. The financial impact from writing back the provision is being assessed.
Positive development for the company as the Rs. 3.83 crore customs demand has been vacated, potentially improving financials through provision reversal. This removes an uncertainty from the company's balance sheet.
