Maruti Suzuki reported total sales of 180,077 units in May 2025, up from 174,551 units in April 2025, driven mainly by a sharp rise in exports to 31,219 units from 17,367 units. Domestic passenger vehicle sales, however, fell to 135,962 units from 144,002 units the previous month. For the first two months of FY26 (April-May 2025), total sales stood at 359,868 units versus 342,640 units in the same period last year, a growth of about 5%. Exports surged nearly 50% year-on-year to 59,130 units, while domestic PV sales dipped 2.6% year-on-year. Within segments, utility vehicles (Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Grand Vitara, Jimny, etc.) grew, while small cars (Alto, S-Presso, Swift, WagonR, etc.) continued to decline.
The export surge and UV segment growth are positives, but the continued weakness in domestic passenger car volumes — the company's traditional bread and butter — is a concern. Investors should watch whether the export momentum sustains and if the UV portfolio can keep offsetting the decline in entry-level cars.
