Maruti Suzuki reported total production of 1,95,882 units in May 2025, up about 1.4% from 1,93,207 units in May 2024. Passenger vehicle output rose to 1,93,466 units from 1,89,964 units, driven mainly by strong growth in utility vehicles (Brezza, Ertiga, Fronx, Jimny, XL6) which jumped nearly 11% to 78,873 units. The mini segment (Alto, S-Presso) declined sharply by about 27% to 10,186 units, mid-size car Ciaz saw production discontinued (nil units vs 1,438), and light commercial vehicle Super Carry fell around 25% to 2,416 units. Compact cars and vans (Eeco) remained largely flat with marginal growth.
Overall production is marginally higher year-on-year, indicating stable demand, but the sharp drop in entry-level mini cars and discontinuation of Ciaz suggest a clear shift in consumer preference toward SUVs and utility vehicles. Shareholders may view this as a positive structural trend, though weakness in small cars and LCVs could pressure margins in those segments.
