Maruti Suzuki has added 30MWp of new solar power capacity across two facilities — 20MWp at its new Kharkhoda plant in Haryana and 10MWp at its Manesar facility. With these additions, the company's total solar capacity has grown from 49MWp to 79MWp in the last one year. By FY2030-31, the company aims to scale solar capacity to 319MWp, backed by an investment of over INR 925 crore. Renewable energy is targeted to make up around 85% of total electricity consumption by FY2030-31. The initiative aligns with parent Suzuki Motor Corporation's Environment Vision 2050 and UN Sustainable Development Goal #7.
This is a long-term sustainability and capex commitment rather than an immediate earnings driver. It signals rising capital expenditure (over INR 925 crore by FY31) but should lower long-term energy costs and improve ESG profile, which may appeal to sustainability-focused investors.
