Max Financial Services reported strong Q1 FY26 results with individual adjusted first-year premium growing 23%, nearly 3x the private sector growth of 8%. Value of new business (VNB) grew 32% to INR335 crore, while new business margin expanded from 17.5% to 20.1%. The company maintained its full-year margin guidance of 24-25% for FY26. Assets under management stood at INR1.83 lakh crore (up 14%) and embedded value at INR26,478 crore (up 20%). Axis Bank, the key partner, grew at 11% while other banca partners collectively grew 54%. Solvency ratio was at 199%. Key management change: Prashant Tripathy steps down as MD & CEO on September 30, 2025, with Sumit Madan (CDO) taking over from October 1, 2025. Axis Bank is pursuing a 1% additional stake purchase in Max Life, awaiting RBI approval.
Strong business growth with margin expansion signals robust fundamentals, while the leadership transition and clarity on the insurance bill/merger regulations reduce near-term overhangs. Shareholders should watch for continued margin improvement toward the 24-25% guidance and resolution of Axis Bank's additional stake purchase.
