Midwest Gold's step-down subsidiary, Midwest Energy Devices Private Limited, has begun trial production at its lithium battery assembly line in Bengaluru, marking a key milestone ahead of its formal entry into the Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) market. The semi-automated facility has an initial annual capacity of 1 GWh, with a roadmap to scale up to 3 GWh. Two flagship BESS products are in development: a 418 kWh outdoor unit for commercial and industrial use, and a 5 MWh containerized platform for grid-scale deployments. The products are being aligned with UL 1973, UL 9540, and UL 9540A certifications, and will carry a 12-year warranty on system and cell. Full commercialization is expected in the coming months, once trial runs are completed and any issues are fixed.
This signals a transition from planning to execution in Midwest's energy storage business, which could open a new revenue stream in a high-growth sector, though actual commercial sales and certification approvals are still ahead and will determine the real impact on the stock.
