MMP Industries reported Q1FY26 revenue of Rs 183 Cr, up 18% YoY, but swung to a loss at the PAT level (Rs -5 Cr) due to a fire at its Umred Powder Division on April 11, 2025, which shut the plant for nearly two months and caused an estimated Rs 17.29 Cr loss (partly insured). EBITDA fell 25% YoY to Rs 13 Cr with margin compressing to 7% from 11.3%. The Foil segment grew strongly at 69% YoY (Rs 29 Cr) and Conductors/Cables rose 57% YoY (Rs 47 Cr), while Powders declined 2% on muted demand and weak exports. The company announced aggressive expansion plans including entry into Composite Insulators (Phase I completed), new LV Power Cable and Covered Conductor facilities with Rs 85-90 Cr capex over 2-3 years, a 7 MW solar park (Rs 35-40 Cr), and backward integration into wire rods (Rs 13-15 Cr). Credit rating reaffirmed at CRISIL BBB+/Positive (LT) and A2 (ST).
Short-term pain from the fire incident is largely one-off and insured, but Q1 results show real margin pressure with negative PAT. The aggressive diversification into higher-margin products like composite insulators and backward integration plans signal management's focus on margin recovery. Shareholders should watch for normalization in Q2 and execution of the Rs 150+ Cr capex pipeline over the next 2-3 years.
