MRF Limited has disclosed three penalty orders received from the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax on 23rd March 2026, totalling approximately Rs. 55.45 lakhs (Rs. 37.15 lakhs for AY 2013-14, Rs. 7.04 lakhs for AY 2015-16, and Rs. 11.25 lakhs for AY 2016-17), all levied under Section 271(1)(c) of the Income-tax Act, 1961. These penalties arise from very minor disallowances (Rs. 0.57 crores, Rs. 0.10 crores, and Rs. 0.16 crores respectively) that were confirmed by CIT(A) in otherwise highly favourable appellate orders where the company secured significant relief totalling around Rs. 209 crores across the three years. The company has stated it will file appeals with CIT(A) against all three penalty orders.
The penalty amounts are extremely small relative to MRF's size and the substantial tax relief already won in appellate proceedings, so this is unlikely to have any meaningful impact on the company's financials or stock price. The disclosure is largely procedural in nature.
