NHPC Limited, a government-owned hydroelectric power company, has raised ₹2,000 crore through a private placement of listed unsecured, non-cumulative, non-convertible, redeemable, taxable bonds named 'AI Series Bonds 2041'. The bonds carry a fixed coupon of 7.67% per annum payable yearly. The total issue comprises 200,000 bonds with a face value of ₹1,00,000 each, issued on 29 May 2026 with maturity on 29 May 2041 (15-year tenor). Principal will be repaid in 10 annual installments starting from year 6 (2032), each worth ₹200 crore, structured as Separate Trading Registered Interest and Principal Securities (STRPPs). The bonds will be listed on the Wholesale Debt Market (WDM) segments of both BSE and NSE.
This bond issuance provides NHPC with long-term debt capital at a fixed rate of 7.67%, helping fund its power infrastructure projects without diluting equity. The staggered principal repayment schedule reduces refinancing risk. For equity investors, the debt raise is neutral to positive as it supports growth while maintaining a government-backed credit profile.
