NHPC's Board of Directors approved the Key Information Document (KID) for raising up to Rs. 2,000 Crore through unsecured, redeemable, taxable, non-convertible, non-cumulative AF-Series Bonds via private placement, as part of its FY 2025-26 borrowing plan. The Board also recommended the appointment of M/s Akhil Rohatgi & Co. as Secretarial Auditor for a five-year period from FY 2025-26 to FY 2029-30, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming AGM. Additionally, the Board approved the development of a 1,200 MW Solar Park at Jalaun district, Uttar Pradesh by NHPC's subsidiary Bundelkhand Saur Urja Limited (BSUL), with an estimated cost of Rs. 796.96 Crore (including IDC of Rs. 42.69 Crore) and NHPC's equity investment of Rs. 239.09 Crore, under the MNRE UMREPP scheme.
The Rs. 2,000 Crore bond issuance will support NHPC's capital requirements for FY 2025-26, while the new 1,200 MW solar project strengthens its renewable energy portfolio and long-term growth pipeline. Both moves signal continued capacity expansion funded through a mix of debt and equity, which is positive for long-term investors but adds to leverage in the near term.
