Niva Bupa Health Insurance reported a 97% jump in IFRS Profit After Tax (PAT) to ₹70.1 crore for Q1 FY26 compared to the same quarter last year. Gross Written Premium (GWP) grew 28% year-on-year to ₹1,875 crore (without the 1/N premium recognition rule) and 11% to ₹1,632 crore (with 1/N). The number of lives insured rose sharply by 50% to 22.5 million from 15 million a year ago. The company improved its retail health insurance market share to 10% and maintained a strong claims settlement ratio of 93.6%. Operating efficiency also improved, with the Expense of Management (EoM) ratio falling to 35.9% from 40.7% in Q1 FY25, while digital business grew 31% on a like-to-like basis.
This is a strong quarterly performance with accelerating profitability, premium growth, and market share gains, which should be viewed positively by investors. The improved claims ratio and lower expense ratio suggest the company is scaling efficiently, supporting the stock's growth narrative.
