NLC India Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to form a Joint Venture for developing nuclear power projects in India. The partnership will initially focus on establishing 700 MW Indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) based Nuclear Power Projects, with the JV also exploring investment opportunities in NPCIL's existing and upcoming 700 MW PHWR projects. This collaboration aligns with India's ambitious target of achieving 100 GW nuclear power capacity by 2047, supported by the SHANTI Bill enacted in December 2025. NLC India, a Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Coal, is diversifying from its traditional mining and thermal power business into nuclear energy as part of its clean energy expansion strategy that already includes solar, wind, pumped hydro storage, BESS, and green hydrogen projects.
Positive for shareholders — NLC India is entering the nuclear energy sector through a strategic JV with NPCIL, diversifying its clean energy portfolio and positioning for long-term growth in India's expanding nuclear power market.
