NLC India Limited has signed an MoU with Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) to form a Joint Venture for establishing Nuclear Power Projects in India. The collaboration targets development of 700 MW Indigenous Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) based Nuclear Power Projects, with the JV also exploring investment opportunities in NPCIL's existing and upcoming 700 MW PHWR projects. The MoU was signed on 25th May 2026 in the presence of both companies' Chairmen. This partnership aligns with India's ambitious target of achieving 100 GW Nuclear Power Capacity by 2047 and follows the enactment of the SHANTI Bill in December 2025. NLCIL, a Navratna CPSE under Ministry of Coal, is diversifying from its traditional mining and conventional power business into nuclear energy as part of its clean energy expansion strategy.
This strategic partnership marks NLCIL's entry into nuclear power generation, providing long-term growth opportunities beyond its coal-based operations. While nuclear projects have long development timelines, the collaboration strengthens NLCIL's clean energy portfolio and positions it as a diversified power company, potentially enhancing its valuation as India moves toward its Net Zero Carbon targets.
