NMDC Steel Limited reported a strong turnaround in FY2026, posting a profit after tax of ₹58.72 crore compared to a loss of ₹2,373.78 crore in FY2025. Revenue from operations grew 60.5% year-on-year to ₹13,641.81 crore from ₹8,503.05 crore. The Q4 standalone profit was ₹391.91 crore on revenue of ₹3,879 crore. The company also declared an unmodified (clean) audit opinion. Debt levels reduced significantly with borrowings falling to ₹4,601.94 crore from ₹5,897.64 crore, and the debt-equity ratio improved to 0.35 from 0.45. Operating cash flow was positive at ₹1,795.50 crore. The auditor's report flagged that the company does not have the required number of Independent Directors and the Audit Committee composition is non-compliant with regulations, with appointments pending from the Central Government.
The company has swung from deep losses to profitability with strong revenue growth and improved leverage, which is a positive signal for shareholders. However, the PAT of ₹58.72 crore on revenues of ₹13,642 crore reflects a thin net margin of 0.43%, and governance issues around board composition may raise concerns for some investors.
