NMDC shared its Q1 FY26 investor presentation reporting record iron ore production of 119.94 LT, up 31% year-on-year, and sales of 115.17 LT, up 14%, both best-ever for any Q1. Revenue from operations jumped 23% to ₹6,634 crore, surpassing the previous Q1 record of ₹6,512 crore set in FY22. However, EBITDA grew only 2% to ₹2,777 crore as margins compressed sharply from 51% in the year-ago quarter to 42%, hurt by a 45% rise in operational expenses and 33% jump in royalty costs. Profit after tax was nearly flat at ₹1,969 crore, while average realisation inched up just 1% to ₹5,353 per tonne. The government continues to hold 60.79% in NMDC, with LIC at 5.53% as the second-largest shareholder.
Record volumes support the growth story, but the steep 900 bps EBITDA margin compression due to higher royalties and input costs is a key concern and may pressure near-term stock sentiment despite strong topline growth.
