Nova Iron & Steel reported a net profit of ₹14,879.22 Lakhs for FY 2024-25, swinging from a loss of ₹9,380.09 Lakhs in the previous year. However, the profit is largely driven by a one-time write-back of time-barred outstanding borrowings (exceptional item of ~₹15,808 Lakhs), while core operations remain in the red with a pre-exceptional loss of ₹1,833.91 Lakhs. Gross revenue fell 26.20% to ₹41,984.92 Lakhs from ₹56,896.14 Lakhs. The company did not declare any dividend. Management highlighted plans to expand capacity from 500 TPD to 1.5 Million Ton/Annum with an 11.5 MW captive power plant, and to reduce debt by monetising assets. A Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process (CIRP) application filed by Bhushan Power and Steel Ltd against the company is pending at NCLT Cuttack. Auditors flagged unconfirmed receivables/payables, unsecured borrowings of ₹7,521.27 Lakhs lacking confirmations, and non-compliance with certain Ind AS norms.
The headline profit is misleading as it stems from accounting write-backs rather than operational performance, and the ongoing CIRP proceedings create significant uncertainty. Falling revenue and the unresolved insolvency case are key risks for shareholders.
