ONGC has received notices from the Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB), Kakinada Regional Office, imposing environmental compensation on three of its facilities — Odalarevu Onshore Terminal, Tatipaka Gas Collecting Station and Kesanapalli Group Gathering Station — due to alleged non-compliance of Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) outlet discharge standards. The total compensation amounts to about ₹1.01 crore: ₹36.6 lakh for Odalarevu, ₹27.6 lakh for Tatipaka GCS, and ₹36.6 lakh for Kesanapalli GGS, covering various periods between June and November 2024. The orders were received on April 18 and April 25, 2025. ONGC has paid the amounts under protest and plans to appeal the orders before the appropriate appellate authority. The company has stated that the financial impact is not significant given its scale of operations.
The financial impact is small (around ₹1 crore) compared to ONGC's overall size and operations, so it is unlikely to materially affect the stock. However, the case highlights ongoing environmental compliance risks at the company's Andhra Pradesh facilities and could lead to longer-term remediation or upgrade costs if the appeal is unsuccessful.
