ONGC has completed two deep geothermal wells (GT#02 and GT#03) at the Puga Geothermal Project in Ladakh, marked by the Lieutenant Governor unveiling a commemorative plaque on July 17, 2026. The milestone advances India's first demonstration-scale geothermal power project, supporting clean round-the-clock energy for the region. Beyond electricity, geothermal energy can power space heating, greenhouse cultivation, agriculture, food processing and geotourism. The project is a joint effort by ONGC Energy Centre, UT Administration of Ladakh and LAHDC-Leh under a five-year collaboration renewed in June 2026.
Strengthens ONGC's clean energy portfolio beyond oil and gas, supports India's Net Zero goals and opens future revenue from geothermal applications.
