Oil India Limited's wholly-owned subsidiary, OIL Green Energy Ltd. (OGEL), has signed a Joint Venture Agreement with Hindustan Waste Treatment Pvt. Ltd. (HWT), a subsidiary of SFC Environmental Technologies Ltd. The partnership will form a 50:50 joint venture company focused on developing compressed biogas (CBG), waste-to-energy, and sustainable resource recovery projects across India. OGEL brings institutional strength and energy sector experience while HWT contributes proven technological and operational capabilities in municipal solid waste-based bioenergy, including a successful biogas plant in North Goa operating for over a decade. This collaboration aligns with India's clean energy transition and circular economy objectives.
This JV marks Oil India's strategic expansion into green energy and waste management sectors beyond its traditional hydrocarbon business, potentially creating new revenue streams and supporting the company's energy transition goals.
