Oil India Limited has announced a new gas discovery at its Dandewala Field in Rajasthan. The well produced an average inflow of 25,000 SCMD of natural gas from a depth of approximately 950 meters. This marks the first-ever successful establishment of gas presence in the shallower Sanu Formation within this field, opening up a new play. Preliminary estimates indicate Gas In Place of around 75 MMSCM, which the company describes as modest but significant. The discovery validates their strategy of revisiting subsurface potential through technical interventions.
The discovery is positive as it expands Oil India's resource base, though the volumes are relatively modest. It demonstrates potential for future appraisal and development efforts in the field, which could support long-term production growth.
