Paytm has launched a new feature called 'Gold Coins' under which every payment made on its platform — including Scan & Pay, online payments, recharges, bill payments, and money transfers via UPI, credit cards, debit cards, and net banking — will earn Gold Coins worth 1% of the transaction value. Users can redeem 100 Gold Coins into ₹1 of actual gold, seamlessly converting them into Paytm Digital Gold, with the option to buy additional gold. Payments made via credit cards and RuPay credit cards on UPI earn double Gold Coins. The launch is timed around the festive season, when gold demand traditionally rises in India, and is positioned as supporting household savings and aligned with the government's Atmanirbhar Bharat and GST reform initiatives.
This is a customer engagement and rewards feature aimed at increasing payment frequency and stickiness on the Paytm platform during the festive season. It is not a material financial event, but if it drives higher transaction volumes it could positively support Paytm's payment revenues in the coming quarters.
