Organic Recycling Systems Ltd (ORSL) has launched a pilot-scale biomethanation plant at its Solapur facility in partnership with SSS-NIBE, a research body under the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. The plant will test the indigenous THERMI-NIBE microbial consortium on complex feedstocks such as Napier grass, agricultural residue, and food/agro-industrial waste, with the goal of producing Compressed Biogas (CBG) under the government's SATAT scheme. ORSL has also begun large-scale cultivation of Napier grass to secure future feedstock supply. The pilot is intended to validate the technology for commercial-scale deployment under India's National Bioenergy Mission. The company currently operates 400 tonnes per day of processing capacity, with about 50% utilization.
This is a strategic R&D and capability-building milestone rather than an immediate revenue trigger. Successful validation could position ORSL to win larger commercial CBG projects under the National Bioenergy Mission, but near-term financial impact is likely limited since this is a pilot stage initiative.
