Piccadily Agro Industries has partnered with ForgeStop to integrate NFC-enabled smart labels into the packaging of its Indri Single Malt whisky bottles. This makes it the first Indian alcoholic beverages company to use this anti-counterfeiting technology. The smart labels use 128-bit AES encryption, tamper-detection features, and allow customers to verify authenticity with a simple smartphone tap — no app required. The move aims to address the widespread problem of counterfeit alcohol in India, where a significant share of alcohol sold is reportedly fake. Piccadily, which operates in distillery and sugar segments and is known for its Indri single malt brand, says this sets a new benchmark for transparency and consumer trust in premium Indian spirits.
This is primarily a brand-building and product-integrity move rather than a direct financial event. It could strengthen Piccadily's premium positioning for Indri Single Malt and help protect its brand value from fake products, but there is no immediate impact on revenue, earnings, or order book.
