Pondy Oxides & Chemicals Limited (POCL) announced the setting up of a new Copper Recycling Plant at Thervoykandigai, Tamil Nadu, with an installed capacity of 36,000 MTPA of LME Grade A Copper Cathode. The Rs. 200 crore project will be implemented in two phases of 18,000 MTPA each, using integrated pyro-refining and electro-refining technology. The plant will be funded through internal accruals and is targeted for commissioning by December 2026. The project aims to expand the company's value-added recycling portfolio, reduce copper import dependency, and position POCL as a competitive global recycled copper supplier targeting both domestic and export markets.
This Rs. 200 crore greenfield expansion represents a significant capital deployment that could substantially grow POCL's revenue and profit margins through higher-value copper products. The strategic move into value-added recycling and forward integration may re-rate the stock if execution is on track.
