Power Grid Corporation has announced the incorporation of a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) named MWANGA TRANSMISSION COMPANY LIMITED in Kenya. The SPV was incorporated on 21st April 2026 under Kenya's Companies Act, 2015. This SPV will implement the Kenya Independent Power Transmission Project under a Public Private Partnership framework with Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO). POWERGRID holds 40% equity stake while Africa50 holds the remaining 60% in this joint venture.
This international expansion into Kenya's power transmission sector diversifies POWERGRID's geographic footprint. The minority 40% stake limits direct financial exposure while allowing the company to leverage its transmission expertise in African markets.
