Power Grid Corporation of India Limited has acquired Bellary Davanagere Power Transmission Limited (BDPTL) on February 12, 2026, after emerging as the successful bidder under Tariff Based Competitive Bidding (TBCB). BDPTL is a project SPV set up to build a 400 kV D/c transmission line in Karnataka for integrating 0.25 GW of renewable energy at Davanagere and 2.75 GW at Bellary, along with associated bay and substation augmentation works, on a build-own-operate-transfer (BOOT) basis. The acquisition cost is approximately Rs. 13.02 crore, covering 100% equity (50,000 shares at Rs. 10 each) plus assets and liabilities. BDPTL was incorporated on September 25, 2025, has not yet started commercial operations, and is not a related party transaction.
This acquisition strengthens POWERGRID's core transmission portfolio and supports India's renewable energy integration goals in Karnataka. While the upfront cost is small (Rs. 13.02 crore), the project adds long-term regulated revenue potential. The move is in line with POWERGRID's strategy of winning TBCB projects and is unlikely to materially move the stock price.
