Prakash Woollen & Synthetic Mills reported standalone Q1 FY26 results with revenue from operations of Rs 1,638.38 lakhs, up about 18% from Rs 1,386.42 lakhs in the same quarter last year. However, the company slipped into a higher operating loss of Rs 96.31 lakhs (before exceptional items) versus Rs 53.09 lakhs a year ago, as cost of materials consumed rose to Rs 1,955.78 lakhs. An exceptional gain of Rs 1,053.83 lakhs (from sale of land & building of Rs 992.97 lakhs and writeback of revaluation reserve) boosted the bottom line, leading to a net loss of Rs 18.69 lakhs versus Rs 31.59 lakhs in Q1 FY25. EPS stood at Rs (0.18). The statutory auditor's Limited Review Report is unqualified with no modifications. The blanket business is seasonal, so quarterly numbers are not representative of the full year.
Core operations remain under pressure with widening operating losses despite revenue growth, but a one-time gain from an asset sale softened the bottom-line loss. For shareholders, the key takeaway is that the recurring business is still loss-making and the quarterly results should be viewed with caution given the seasonal nature of the blanket business.
