Bata India has informed stock exchanges about three changes in its Senior Management Personnel. Mr. Satyam Sharma has resigned as Head – Merchandising effective May 5, 2025, citing personal commitments; his resignation letter was attached to the filing. Mr. Uttam Kumar, currently Regional Director – Product & Merchandising (APAC) at Bata Group with 20+ years of retail and footwear experience, will be appointed as Senior Vice President – Merchandising & Replenishment on or before July 31, 2025, effectively replacing Sharma. Additionally, Mr. Kandarp Asher, currently VP – Replenishment (SMP), will move to a new role as Category Lead – Merchandising and cease to be part of SMP. The resigning executive addressed his letter to the MD & CEO (Gunjan Shah).
The resignation and replacement in the merchandising function — a critical revenue-driving role for a footwear company — could create short-term uncertainty around product strategy. However, the incoming appointee brings deep internal group experience, suggesting continuity in merchandising direction. Shareholders should monitor the transition for any disruption to product mix or seasonal buying decisions.
