Rain Industries' wholly-owned subsidiary Rain Carbon Canada Inc. (RAINCA) has joined a consortium with Northern Graphite Corporation to develop battery-grade materials from natural graphite processing by-products. The 24-month project has a total cost of C$2.2 million, with funding support of up to C$860,000 (€530,000) from the Canada–Germany Collaborative Industrial Research and Development Program, backed by Canada's NRC IRAP and Germany's BMWE/ZIM program. RAIN will contribute its proprietary LIONCOAT® carbon coating technology and lead electrochemical testing at its Hamilton, Ontario Technology Innovation Center. The project aims to upcycle low-value graphite fine fractions into high-performance battery anode material, reducing waste and supporting a Western supply chain for the energy storage market.
This is a strategic R&D move that strengthens Rain Industries' positioning in the battery materials value chain and enhances its LIONCOAT® technology platform, but the grant size is small relative to the company's overall scale and there is no immediate revenue or earnings impact. Shareholders may view it as a positive long-term signal about diversification into energy storage materials.
